As you all hopefully know by now, we are working together to build FanBox into a self-sustaining “social economy” where every user is able to play a role in its success and share in the revenues that it creates.

The social economy that we are building here functions much like that of any other country or nation across the globe, and so perhaps the best way to measure the success of our community is by applying the same principles that are used to measure the success of all other nations as well.

How do nations measure their own success?

Up until the past 20-30 years, the general consensus among countries around the world was that the success of a nation was based strictly around its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The GDP of a country represents the total dollar value of all goods and services produced over a specific time period - you can think of it as the size of the economy.

Measuring GDP is complicated (which is why we leave it to the economists), but at its most basic level the calculation can be done in one of two ways: either by adding up what everyone earned in a year (income approach), or by adding up what everyone spent (expenditure method). Logically, both measures should arrive at roughly the same total.

While GDP has worked as a great measurement of success in the past, as our global society has become more advanced over time it has become clear to the majority of people that there are many other measurements that are becoming increasingly important to the long term success of a nation.

Interesting and valuable presentation, in my opinion the first and the second leading indicators are the most important, they define the other two.
Thanks, Brian, for sharing, and Happy New Year !

This is indeed very interesting as I have never studied society into such extent yet. Therefore I will be very curious to see the measures and means on how you will lay out a pathway for us to follow. Keep it up president Brian. I am sure all of us (who read this thoroughly) are in wonder now. :)
